The American documentary “Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution” by James Lebrecht and Nicole Newnham has been released on Netflix.
The film tells the story of a group of young people with disabilities who experience appreciation and community in a summer camp in the early 1970s and then, motivated by their experiences, take to the streets for the rights of people with disabilities in the wake of the Civil Rights Movement and the anti-Vietnam War demonstrations in the United States to fight for an accessibility legislation.
In the Summer Camp, the teenagers filmed and interviewed each and together with historical recordings of the long, tedious protest and interviews with the participants who look back on that time, many memorable moments are told and one gets a natural insight into what has moved these young people and how together the future can be shaped. Moving and inspiring.
