Atlantis is a 2019 Ukrainian dystopian post-apocalyptic film directed by Valentyn Vasyanovich and follows a former soldier with PTSD from his duty in a fictional war with Russia trying live his life in the year 2025 after all the horrors he has encountered.
It is a slow film with lots long takes and wide landscape shots featuring heavy machinery or old destroyed factories. The persons in this film are not actors but real people who are veterans, soldiers or volunteers who experienced the Ukraine conflict. We see soldiers on an improvised shooting range, soldiers clearing a mine field and medical units exhuming and identifying corpses from mass graves.
With its focused style and improvised acting the film makes for a rewarding calm reflection on the aftermath of modern conflict.
