The three-part documentary “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” filmed and directed by Coodie & Chike about the life of rapper, record producer and fashion designer Kanye West was released on Netflix.
It features a detailed collage of natural moments and off-screen narration by Coodie, who knew Kanye from when he wasn’t famous yet and started filming the first steps of the young and eager artists’ career that would lead to superstardom and make him propably the most influential artist of the first two decades of this century.
It’s a great way to get to know the person and artist Kanye West from a inside perspective and there are great private moments with his mom or other musicians in the studio from the early days where he works really hard to get recognition and wishes for his dream to come into fruition. It also shows Kanye’s personal transformation through his success which led to phases of controversy that he also became known for.
All the information about records and people that appear can be a little too much for viewers who are not already familiar with the life story and music of Kanye and the background information of the rap industry but it takes it’s time and works well in showing all the facettes of this interesting and polarizing artist.
