The US comedy drama “Marriage Story” with Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson by Noah Baumbach from 2019 on Netflix is excellent. A sensitive portrait of a break-up marriage and at the same time of a family that stays together.
The acting and the dialogues are excellent and especially Adam Driver and Laura Dern, in a supporting role as a divorce lawyer, bring a lot of joy with countless details in gestures and voice. The vast amount of strong scenes take you on the couple’s emotional journey through separation. The depiction and the alternation of love, sadness, anger and humor are very well made and show the emotional diversity of the crisis. The film manages to stay human at its core and is probably the best US drama of 2019 that is set in present times.
